The Mandurah Wearable Art Showcase, the weekend of June 6th - 7th, Mandurah Performing Art Centre
Jacqs piece was awarded a major prize this year - Creative Reuse
This year Jacq entered the 'Oceania' category. With an Angler Fish in mind she created 'A fish out of water'. An outfit made out of milkbottles.... over 200 were cut up. Each bottle could be cut into 20+ scales. A crinoline was made from old wire and covered in a plastic sack. The scales were then hot glued onto the sack. Around the 'mouth' of the skirt, a ring of milk bottle teeth. The bodice is an old corset also covered in milk bottle scales. The headpiece and fins were crafted using flat pieces of milk bottle plastic which Jacq ironed to fuse the pieces together. Some sewing was required to make the arm cuffs. Some drilling, aluminium strips and pop riveting formed the hat. It was then spray painted and covered in little sequins made from DVD's and old black beads. In the models hand is a hose bound in white ribbon. The ball at the end holding a torch which provides the Angler fish's own bioluminescent lure
The Anglerfish, a feared predator of the deep. Made from plastic, ironically the very same material that is currently choking our oceans. Plastic has become the biggest predator of our marine life. ‘A Fish out of water’ , a fish outfit made form the material that is killing our fish....
